With only just under two weeks to go until the Occasional Home Store Spring Fair takes place at West Reservoir Centre in Hackney on Saturday 3rd March, we thought we’d have a little chat with one third of the trio behind the event, Rebecca, aka @malmo_and_moss of Instagram!
We’re really excited about the event and are so happy to be working in association with them once again! Read a bit more about where the idea came from and some of the reasons Rebecca thinks people will be rushing to N4 in a few Saturdays time…
What inspired the Occasional Home Store?
Sally and I met when doing NCT with our first born children. We discovered our mutual love of vintage and started doing a market stall together at North London Vintage Market where we met Beth. We knew there was nothing similar in our own area of North London so the Occasional Home Store was born. We realised that whilst there were lots of vintage markets there were not many that blended contemporary and vintage homeware and so that became our aim with OHS.

The first Occasional Home Store event in September last year!
What was your favourite part of the last fair in September?
We just loved the lovely friendly positive and buzzy atmosphere with lots of creative happy shoppers having fun! We had planned it for over 6 months so was just so exciting to see it come to life.
Why do you think these types of events are so popular with the Instagram community?
I think it gives people an opportunity to meet the people behind the squares and find inspiration for their own homes and instagram. It is also bringing lots of businesses they may have only experienced online, offline and allowing them to find unique items for their homes.
How did you find the various vintage traders, designer makers and stores to take part?
We have an idea of the kind of look we would like the event to have, which is kind of modern / rustic/scandi / brocante style so we look for stallholders who fit with that look and blend well together.
What do you look for when sourcing interiors for you own home?
I like to find good quality simple staple basics and then mix them with more unusual vintage items that not everyone else will have. I like knowing the story behind how things have been made as well.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2018 Spring Fair?
We are excited to see how everything looks in our new venue and seeing people’s reactions as they walk in for the first time! As well as finding out what people buy!
Any surprises we can expect on the day?
We are looking forward to bringing back our decorative hoops, with a twist, and have lots of fun events happening in the insta meet up!
What does the future hold for the Occasional Home Store? Can we expect more fairs in the future?
We are already thinking about Christmas so you can definitely expect us to be back again in 2018!
Well, that is great news! We can’t wait for that! Thanks so much to Rebecca for taking the time to answer these questions! We are so looking forward to the 3rd March and if you are too, then click here for more information and ticket purchases or click here to read even more about what you can expect on @malmo_and_moss’s blog.
And then I guess that all that’s left to say is… see you there!
